The intended parents may seek the help of a surrogate mother when they are unable to carry a pregnancy themselves due to various reasons such as infertility, medical conditions, or other reasons, and often same-sex couples will look to surrogacy as a path toward starting a family.<\/p><p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">There are two types of surrogacy: gestational surrogacy and traditional surrogacy. In gestational surrogacy, the surrogate mother carries a fertilized egg that has been created through in vitro fertilization (IVF), using the intended mother&#8217;s egg or a donor egg, and the intended father&#8217;s sperm or donor sperm. The surrogate mother is not genetically related to the child. In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate mother\u2019s own eggs are used.
